The story, passed down through Church history, is that this crucifix, currently located at The Church of St. Chaira in Assisi , Italy , spoke to St. Francis as he was praying before it. At that time Jesus said: ”Francis, go repair my house which as you see is falling completely to ruin.” Francis replied: “Gladly will I do so, Lord.”
